Two New Announcements for Team System Fans

There have been two new announcements for Team System fans in the past 24 hours.

First, Gert has announced the release of the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR:

Although the name "GDR", which stands for "General Redistribution Release", implies otherwise, this really is a complete new release, based on a new architecture. We have taken the architectural changes from the Rosario project (Visual Studio Team System 2010) and rolled them forward in time. Rolling forward these changes help us align the GDR release with the upcoming Visual Studio Team System 2010 release and provide numerous new features and extensibility points in this release. If you would compare the GDR release with the "Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals" or "Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition" you will agree this is a completely new product!

The second major announcement come from Brian Harry's blog.  He just announced that System Center 2008 Management Packs for TFS 2008 are available:

Overview

The Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2008 Management Pack monitors exposed services of TFS. This management pack includes event rules and monitors. It is designed to proactively monitor quality and availability of TFS services and even automate recovery in some scenarios.

Feature Summary

  • Auto discovery of TFS components
  • Leverages ASP.NET MP and SQL MP
  • Implements containment hierarchy reflecting logical architecture of the Product
  • Implements a proper health model using Monitors
  • Contains tasks, diagnostic and recovery for certain failures
  • Events indicating service outages
  • Alerts indicating configuration issues and connected data source changes
  • Verification that all dependant services are running
  • Targeted running of BPA against TFS Servers from Operator Console
